David Reimondo est, depuis toujours, fasciné par le corps biologique et sa représentation. Dans son travail, l’artiste italien répond aux dilemmes du questionnement sur soi et de la représentation, en créant des tableaux vides de toute présence humaine. Vidés de leur substance, les contenants mis en scène renforcent l’idée de l’existence de l’homme à travers son appartenance socio-ethnique. Seule l’apparence, ou la trace humaine, est évoquée en filigrane. Dans son atelier milanais, l’artiste, aidé de trois assistants, passe ses journées à placer des lamelles de papier aluminium sur des tranches de pain de mie pour protéger à certains endroits la matière de la cuisson ou de la brûlure qu’il lui inflige avant d’agencer et de figer le tout dans de la résine biologique. L’heureuse association de ce procédé original avec ses interrogations sur le monde permet à David Reimondo de produire une œuvre gigantesque à partir de l’infinitésimal. Symbole religieux du corps humain, le pain dont il assemble minutieusement les tranches, permet à l’artiste de reconstituer une vue globale sur le monde et de zoomer jusqu’à sonder au plus profond de l’être humain. D’une grande force esthétique et d’une grande légèreté visuelle à la fois, le travail de David Reimondo fait preuve d’une maîtrise technique rarement égalée à ce jour, faisant de lui un artiste incontournable de la scène contemporaine internationale.
David Reimondo has always been fascinated by the biological body and its representation. In his work, this Italian artist addresses the dilemmas of self-questioning and representation, by creating canvases devoid of human presence. Deprived of their substance, the images represented strengthen the idea of the existence of men through their socio-ethnic belonging. Only the appearance, or human trace, is implicitly evoked. In his studio in Milan, the artist, helped by three assistants, spends his days covering some parts of breads slices with the appropriate aluminum mask to protect them from the toasting or burning he inflicts upon them before arranging and solidifying the whole into biological resin. Combining this original process with his questioning on the world makes it possible for David Reimondo to produce a huge work from what’s infinitesimal. A religious symbol of the human body, the bread whose slices he assembles thoroughly, enables the artist to rebuild an overall vision of the world and then to zoomin upon the deepest of the human being. Both very esthetic and visually light, the work by David Reimondo shows a rarely equaled technical mastery, that makes him an incontrovertible artist of the international contemporary scene.
