La démarche artistique d’Azade Köker consiste à mettre en lumière les contradictions et excès en tous genres qui caractérisent la société contemporaine. Les villes représentées par l’artiste semblent s’être perdues dans les méandres des transformations imposées par une mondialisation qui a choisi de sacrifier l’idéal sur l’autel du profit économique. Condamnés à réprimer leur propres désirs individuels, les habitants assistent impuissants à l’urbanisation galopante qui s’opère devant leurs yeux. Partant de ce constant encombrant, Azade Köker crée dans « Labyrinth city » une opposition saisissante entre ce qui semble être un bidonville et l’omniprésence des paraboles sur le toit des frêles habitations. Entassées les unes sur les autres, celles-ci semblent puiser leur force dans leur caractère rudimentaire et s’efforcent de se maintenir debout par leurs propres moyens. D’où une impression de décor de ville miniature recelant le dernier bastion d’un espace convivial valorisant toutes sortes d’interactions humaines.
Azade Köker’s artistic approach consists in putting the light on all types of contradictions and excesses which characterize the contemporary society. The cities depicted by the artist seem to have lost themselves in the maze of the transformations imposed by a globalization that has chosen to sacrifice the ideal in the name of economic profit. Condemned to repress their own individual desires, the inhabitants attend helplessly the soaring urbanization that takes place before their eyes. With this embarrassing observation as a starting point, Azade Köker creates in “Labyrinth city” a striking opposition between what seems to be a shantytown and the omnipresent satellite dishes on the roofs of the flimsy dwellings. Piled up with each other, the latter seem to draw their strength in what’s rudimentary and try to maintain themselves by their own means. Hence an impression of miniature city setting concealing the last stronghold of a living space valuing all kinds of human interactions.
